Say you’re in an argument with the most stubbornly ignorant asshole you’ve ever met. What do you do? The following is a hypothetical answer that is best said with as much sarcasm as one can muster while, followed by immediately turning and walking away, possibly flipping him off. Your choice.

After realizing that he can’t be swayed (from knowing little and sticking with it rather than knowing a lot and having an informed bias), say the following:

You: You know what would be an excellent way to end this argument?

I.A.: No, what?

You: Well, since the dawn of Human Civilization, there’s been this fascinating quality to people.

I.A.: Oh yeah, what’s that?

You: It’s called “tact.” It’s good for when you want to control a person or situation. There’s this one sub-skill in particular that is very useful, do you know what it is?

I.A.: Not a clue.

You: It’s called shutting the fuck up, and in this case it would be done by you.
