A Donkey is Not Just an Ass
An editorial about Donkeys.
Whenever an uninformed, uneducated, ignorant person prefixes a comment by using the words: “It’s just…” or “It’s only…
before naming a person, place, animal, or thing, in my opinion, they’re automatically minimizing its worth. Here are some interesting facts you perhaps did not know: A Mule is a across between a Donkey Stallion and a horse mare. “Donkeys” differ from horses in conformation. The most noticeable differences are in the ears; “Donkey’s” ears are much longer in proportion to their size then that of a horse. Another name for a “Mule” is a “Jack” and Ass” for a ” Donkey”. When a person refers to another as an ”Ass”, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re Insulting you; they may very well be paying you a compliment!
Here are some personal reasons why “Donkeys” are one of my most favorite animals:
1. First and foremost: “A Donkey” is a creation of God. Anything created by God ought to be respected.
2. “Donkeys” are especially remarkable for their patience, gentleness, intelligence, meekness, submissiveness, and great power of endurance…attributes (unfortunately) lacking in many humans.
3. “Donkeys” are animals of peace. When Jesus made His triumphant entry into Jerusalem, it was on the back of a “Donkey”.
4. “Donkeys” always seem to mind their own business and never complain when made to carry heavy loads placed on their backs by man.
5. There is only one animal mentioned in the entire Bible whom God caused to actually speak human words; that animal was a “ Donkey”.
So next time you come across a ”Donkey”, or any other animal, person, place, or thing, give some serious thought before uttering these words: ”Oh, it’s just or, it’s only”. More than likely, whatever your are referring to, has a greater value and credence then what you may think.
