This space chimp gets ready to blast into space. One must wonder what’s going on in his mind. Maybe he’s thinking, “What’s happening here?” Or maybe he’s thinking, “I hope you double checked the Saturn V booster rockets. We monkeys have been waiting for humans to develop this technology for years.”

This is actually Ham, the original space chimp who flew on the Mercury spacecraft. NASA could not train a Navy guy fast enough so they brought in a chimp. Chimps eat less than Navy personnel, too.

It is unwise to think you’re smarter than a monkey. They beat humans into space. Apes and monkeys have fascinating intelligence.
