There’s a New Lolcat Builder in Town

Published by thestickman in Animal

I have seen many Lolcat images on Flickr.com, most of us know about those. They are created by members whom have signed up at the ICanHasCheezburger.com (ICHC) site and made them available for sharing. Often thee images ending up on Flickr, StumbleUpon and other sites. ICHC’s motto is “caption everything.”

Everyone loves Cat Humor so I joined ICanHasCheezburger and have begun to create my own LOLCats images for sharing. In the past I have used a few images from ICHC members that were found on Flickr.com under the Creative Commons licensing agreement. These represent some the very best examples of image captioning, yet I have heard some feedback from avid LOLCats fans that they have ’seen these before’ and wanted to see something new. So, presented for the first time, here are a few of my humble first attempts at captioning my own LOLCats images.

Be forewarned, cats don’t speak very well so most of what they have to say is in ‘LOL-speak‘ language.

Cats RULE, Dogs DROOL!

This is a pretty good impression of a dog panting. Cats pant too, as neither dogs nor cats have the ability to sweat to regulate body temperature. Dogs pant like flippin’ idiots and they drool, making complete fools of themselves. Cats however do it with style and class!

Cat Helps with the Chores

Last night the owners heard the incessant squeak-squeak-squeak of that hamster-wheel exercise thing. It went on all night long. It kept the ‘hoomons’ awake.

Well, -they should be able to sleep-in tomorrow..

Cat With a Shadow

Have you ever had that feeling that you are being followed by a dark mocking entity? Shadow cat is here.

The Easter Bunny

Gesundheit! Not a cat mind you, but too cute to not include. I knew that rabbits have teeth but these are rather impressive.  I guess if this rabbit were to take a bite out of a carrot or an apple he would leave a mark like a pair of pliers. All I see are two top teeth and two bottom teeth. There must be more further back.

When someone sneezes, the typical response from anyone nearby is “God bless you.” This phrase is said to be attributed to Pope Gregory the Great. It was in the sixth century and during the bubonic plague that a sneeze was believed to be an early symptom of possibly having the dreaded disease. A blessing from the Pope (or, anyone for that matter) was thought to help.

“Gesundheit” is sometimes said instead. In America, this comes from the German immigrants and it is an invocation too meaning literally, “health.”

Cat Fight Tonight!

Kitteh getting ready for the big boxing championship tonight! (Notice if you will, the dragonfly in this image.)

No Cat on Menu! You No Ask!

There is this contention bordering upon urban legend that Chinese Fast Food Restaurants sometimes serve cat meat instead of chicken. It is doubtful they would be allowed to do so, yet the myth continues. This image does nothing to alleviate that myth.

While they may eat rat, cat, dog and snake as a normal fare over in China, I am sure it’s different here in Canada. We have lots of chicken. Save the cats for funny pictures please.

City Cat Follows the Rules

Pedestrians obey the signs. This includes cats too, this one is watching the little ‘hoomon’ stick figure signal light.

No More “Lost Cat” Signs in This Neighborhood

Although their sense of direction is impeccable, some cats need help. I have seen “LOST CAT” posters around the city. These posters usually include a Photoshop image of the cat, a brief description, reward & and contact information should anyone see or find the missing feline.

I like to be funny and using a dark magic marker, will write on the bottom of the poster something like

Come to China Wok City Restaurant. Ask for “Lunch Special” I just hope that others share my twisted sense of humor. Someone misses their cat. I hope s/he finds the way home. Again with the ‘No cat! You no ask here again!’

Contemplating being that ‘Flying’ Squirrel

The kitty-cat version of a ‘time out’ I suppose. Cats need to pontificate too, you know.

Ninja Kitty Sneaks Up on Mantis

Based a pretty awesome martial arts movie, folks.

Burping Content

Vote for your favorite in this contest. Who can burp the loudest, the longest and the most often. Prizes to be awarded for the ability to speak selected phrases in ‘burpese.’

Cat Treats are the BEST!

Today’s snack is brought to you by the letter “E” and the Corporation for Healthy Cats.

And that is about all I have come up so far for captioning images.

No doubt I love cats. I also enjoy creating wooden carved cat statues, other animals for gifts during the holidays. I recently created a wooden carved hobby horse statue which turned out pretty well.

Another humor article of mine can be found here, featuring funny images, signs and silly billboards.

why do you have to explain the pictures after? it takes away from the funny. also, since you did ask for random persons’ feedback, i think more sarcasm, or perhaps leaving a bit to the viewer’s imagination would take it to the next level. “burp” and “achoo” did not make me laugh. that’s exactly what it looks like, and telling me what it looks like is not humor.
however, you have an awesome collection so far, and i look forward to seeing more of you in the future, as I’m sure we will! thanks for your work!

    Hello Stickman,

Very funny pictures but I agree with Jennie. What was the purpose of explaining the pictures? Some captions were interesting while others just took away from the picture.

Thanks for sharing your work and I hope to see you around,

the walk this way one, should say tabby road.

  12. Posted April 2, 2009 at 6:13 am

Yeah well sadly I am required to provide some text to accompany the image. Publisher requirements. I would like to just provide text for what is being conveyed to assist user-agents for the handicapped (text-to-speech, text-to-braille, etc.) Or, some additional witticism to complete the thought.

Re: “Tabby Road” That is GREAT! d-OH! Would have been an excellent afterthought. :-)

  13. Posted April 2, 2009 at 11:30 am

Too Funny! Personally, I think that your captions are great! Just don’t let Clay see this one. He’ll make some McKitten jokes about it. (Just kidding Clay! Make all the jokes you want, just don’t take my cat.)

I’m still learning. There are fantastic lol-cats creators out there. I’m not in their league yet. :-(

A better caption I have seen for the last picture was “Your offering pleases kitteh”. Still good though.

they were all hilarious but my favorite was the tiger impersonating a panting dog.

  19. Posted April 3, 2009 at 4:02 am

They are funny…but I have to say I don’t really ‘get it’, what is the point of them?

  20. Posted April 3, 2009 at 1:09 pm

“…what is the point of them?”

For those that understand, no explanation is necessary.
For those that do not understand, no explanation is possible.

    :-)

Basically, -to bestow upon our feline friends some human fallibilities and then, to smile at them.

First off, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOLCats and have my own account (so don’t flame me and call me a “hater”)…I just wonder how it is that everyone decided that cats can’t speak English correctly? I mean, how did it all start?

The general attitude and “mythos” around cats is that they think they’re Gods and humans are their slaves, so why wouldn’t they be considered to have a loftier form of language than we mere mortals? :-) Honestly, I enjoy the pictures better when they have “real” captions and I don’t think that makes me an idiot (which, by the way, was a pretty harsh attack on someone who was asking a question and stating their opinion in a non-threatening manner). This is a subject that’s been bugging me pretty much ever since I discovered LOLCats, so I had to butt in on the conversation here. I just had to stick up for us “Grammar Nazis.” :-)

  28. Posted April 4, 2009 at 10:14 pm

I would agree. I find it easier to read, incorrect spelling is an eyesore and offense to the senses. However, I am doing it olde-school for now. And not quite as ‘intense’ as the ’speaklolspeak’. So, I guess it is a dialect of lolspeak. Or, feline version Doktoro Esperanto.

  29. Posted April 5, 2009 at 3:19 am

Wow what an article and so nicely done. Very informative and well presented. I love the pictures with the descriptions.

many years ago, I had a siamese that escaped outside. A week later, my stepfather found his body. Judging by the tracks, he had been ddisembowled by a rabbit. An English WWII officer, General Montgomery said: “I shall fight like a cornered rabbit.”

  34. Posted April 7, 2009 at 7:59 pm

wow… I’m speechless. I suppose they must have abilities.

Take a ferret, about 1/4th the size of a housecat and capable of killing it if duly provoked. They’d rather play, but if it comes right down to it, there have been instances of people finding their kitty torn to shreds by a wee pet ferret..

  35. Posted April 12, 2009 at 5:46 am

    the pics are really great.
