Top Six Ugliest Animals on Mother Earth

Ever wondered which is the ugliest, grossest, slimiest creature to walk this earth? We have a small list here, so come in to make fun at the respective organisms at their ugliness!

The art of creation is a very inspirational one, and seems God was just less inspired when it came to creating some of us. The animal kingdom is populated with over 2.5 million species of organisms, some are magnificent, colorful and majestic, and others just happen to be a little slimy, weird-faced and warty. It’s not their fault really, they were just made ugly.

We have scavenged the seven continents, the oceans and even underground to find the ugliest organisms that walk the Earth. Here’s the top six of our list:

Dobsonfly

This is a relative of the fireflies, however it doesn’t have it’s cousins’ attraction. Found commonly in North and Central America, it displays vivid ugliness. This is a picture of a Dobsonfly under the microscope and as you can see from the mutilated – uh, lips? – And the lopsided grin or sneer, it’s not an inclusion in the pretty crowd. The actual insect is long and narrow and of a very dark color. It’s equipped with an irritating smell for defense, so beware when you throw snide comments. It’s number 1 on our list.

Hawaiian Hoary Bat

Either this bat thinks she’s Paris Hilton or she has one nerve to be blowing raspberries at us. This is the Hawaiian hoary bat, an animal found on the Hawaiian Islands. It’s name hoary comes from the color of its fur, which is a dark brown and black. The poor thing got so teased in high school of her large ears, that she and her race are quickly becoming extinct and although conservation plans are in motion, lets all shush about her ugliness. She does place at number 2 on our list -

Monkfish

Also known as sea-devil, goosefish, fishing-frog, frog-fish and sometimes “Poor Man”s Lobster’ is a grotesque marine organism, found on the coasts off Europe. It has a flat, slimy body and is consumed by many people. Now if only they knew what they ate. Of course, the Monkfish is also a devoted priest but I’d rather not listen to it recite the Bible. It places number 3 on our list.

Warthog

Found in dense vegetation shelters in the forests of Africa, the warthog is a peculiar type of wild pigs. Its ugliness is characterized by weird wart-like tusks on his head and its flattened, malformed face. With a body very much unlike Tad Hamilton, but more like a barrel of wine, it places number 4.

Sea Pig

Sea Pig or by its scientific name, Scotoplane, is a wacky little creature. It usually inhabits the sea beds and feeds on the mud, taking in the organic materials settled there for nutrition. Despite the gross little tentacles and the various suckers, some people find it absolutely adorable. But given the actual lack of any cuteness, it’s placed number 5 on our list.

Blobfish

The blobfish inhabits the deepest layers of the waters off the coasts of Australia and Tasmania. It’s a very shy creature, rarely seen by humans because its habitat is quite inaccessible. This gelatin-like, boneless mass of flesh isn’t much of a looker and as you can see by its lopsided sad smile, it’s pretty unhappy. Sad and ugly – that’s the way the world roles. The blobfish truly deserves being at the number 6 spot on our list.

The sea pig doesn’t actually look as bad as the picture would lead you to believe. They usually live at a depth where the water pressure is quite great, and because the photo was taken with it out of water at surface pressure it has expanded and swollen because the pressure around it is so much less than it is designed for. Ditto the blob fish (though he doesn’t look much better IN the water!)

Also, the hoary bat is cute :)

The sea pig looked soo cool! I’d so keep one as a pet! But I don’t think I have a big supply of mud for it. O.o
