Technology Blues

Don’t bother making up a new social networking site for me to ignore you.

The further that technology advances, the more I am feeling peer pressure to have the newest and greatest devices and using the latest social networking sites. There are more social networking sites than I care to deal with. I joined myspace in 2005 because of the peer pressure from my friends. You HAVE to do it, everyone is doing it. So I joined. All myspace has done for me, is give me viruses and allow a medium for my ex-boyfriends to cyber stalk me.

“Why don’t you have a facebook?”, a friend of mine called to pressure me into getting another website for me to ignore. I’ve really had enough of these social networking sites. Then your friends harass you into getting another stupid faceyspacey website for you to neglect. I log on to my myspace approximately once a month. So don’t bother leaving me a stupid message or comment with a waving cat wearing a funny hat. I’ll just neglect it. I have a REAL LIFE with REAL FRIENDS that I talk to on a house phone or see in person.

So that leads me to cell phones. I didn’t even have a cell phone until about 5 years ago. I HATE the idea of people thinking I have to answer my phone and then if I don’t I’m an A-hole. What’s even worse is this text messaging crap. You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve gotten in trouble because a person didn’t like the “tone” of my text message or I didn’t respond that very second. Like I just sit and stare at my phone waiting for people to call or text.

I spend whole weekends now with my cell phone off and never touching my computer. It feels great. You should try it too. Freedom of devices feels so good. One day this week you should just try it. Leave the cell phone at home or off. You won’t believe how great it feels.
