Can’t It at Least LOOK Like a Donut?

Why does healthy food have to LOOK healthy?

All right.   I surrender.  I admit I should be eating healthy—or at least healthier—foods.

But, for crying out loud, does it all have to come in bars?!  Or taste like something out of the paper shredder?

I know, there are fruits and vegetables—and I eat a lot of those.  I have a garden, in fact.  What I’m talking about are the times when my sweet tooth is being so persistent that I can’t even sleep.  Or the times I’ve gone for days, craving a donut.  I tell myself, “No!  I will be strong!”  But the craving never, ever goes away.

Until I sink my teeth into the softest, freshest donut I can find.

Then, I’m okay.  For awhile.

But,  according to “health professionals” it’s best to keep away from sweets.

Fine.  I’ll be happy to eat healthy food all the time.   As long as some of it tastes good.  But sometimes good isn’t good enough.  I need SUGAR!  Lip-smacking, tongue-curling, eye-rolling, yummy sugar!  I’m willing to switch to “fakes”, like granola bars and carob—that type of thing.

But somehow, nothing fixes my sugar craving like a donut.   What is there about a donut that’s so hard to imitate?  The trans-fats have been taken out of fast-food, and it still tastes good.   The sugar has been taken out of soda, and some of it tastes even better.

Why can’t anyone make health food that at least LOOKS like a donut?
