Oftentimes we do not realize when we hit a rut in the game of life. There is an obstacle in the way and we just do not know how to get rid of it, but it is staring us in the face and it is annoying. It is so easy for us to continue to do the same thing repeatedly. It can even have to do with the way we are being treated in which we continue to receive the same answer. After a while, you usually become aware of what is going on. There is only one thing left to do when the realization comes to you: Do something different to change the result.

Betty Suarez of Ugly Betty did just that when she was having problems with Henry’s ex-girlfriend Charlie, who was pregnant with Henry’s baby. Charlie kept on purposely getting in the way of her and Henry’s dates. Therefore, Betty worked to change the result. How did she do it? She gave Charlie a baby shower. She reached out to Charlie and they reached an impasse. Now it did not make them best buds, but their relationship was better than it had been previously. It was better because Betty did something differently to get a different result.

Sometimes it can involve pretending to be someone else. Doing something that people would think is a regular part of your character, stepping outside yourself. Other times the reply you need to give is very much part of your character – it may just mean reaching out. When Betty did something differently, she was still working within her character. This all depends on the situation in which you are stuck. It is no fun to be stuck in a loop. If you want a different answer for anything in your life, you have to do things differently.
