Embarrassing Situations
This article is a collection of the worst embarrassing situations. Embarrassment is an equal rights and equal opportunity predicament – no age, gender, race or any discrimation whatsoever.
We all have been through embarrassing situations and wonder why it always happens to us. Here is a collection of some of my worst moments ever.
Saying yes when you didn’t really hear the question
I had won a prize for a writing contest when I was 12. At the prize giving ceremony, a somewhat famous personality (I cannot recall his name) stepped forward to give me a prize and asked me something. I did not hear what he had asked but replied “Yes”. He looked at me in a funny way and smiled. Later he told me that he had asked me how I found the contest, I wanted to die.
Book of lies
Lying was one of my all time favorite activity when I was a kid. I had even a book where I’d write all the lies I told so that I would not forget what I had said about what. I had told my teacher that at home we had a giant TV and all kinds of gadgets. Then I realized that if ever he came to our house, he would find out. And I kept hoping that he would never come, eventually he did come to visit years later but never said anything.
How far is that?
Once I went for an interview in an unfamiliar part of the town, I took the subway and got off at the right station. I had looked up the location on the Internet and it did not seem far from the subway station. It was early and I decided to walk it to the office. Big mistake, it started snowing and the office was more than 10 blocks from the station. There was a snow storm with the wind so strong that I almost got blown away. When I reached the office, the interviewer politely showed me the way to the washroom. I had snow all over my clothes and my hair was such a mess. No wonder I did not get the job.
Wearing glasses is not cool
I am nearsighted but I insisted on not wearing glasses at school . In class I could not see the board clearly but refused to go for an eye exam. Once the teacher had drawn a complicated chart on the board and the class had to copy that. I could only see a blurred curve and tried desperately to copy from the girl sitting next to me. When she found out she burst out “You can”t see! You should be wearing glasses!’ I was totally mortified, even more when the teacher called at home to report on my eyesight. After this incident I started to wear glasses in class.
