Express Line Grocery Shopping

A humorous look at the days when you run in to the grocery store for one or two items.

You know the days. I have done this far too often. I quickly stop by the grocery store on my way home from work. Usually I need to pick up bread and milk, so I don’t take a cart.

Of course I see a few other things I forgot that I needed and the next thing I know I am juggling five or six items. This is where the exercise becomes quite comical. Try juggling a loaf of bread, a jug of milk, a large bottle of soda and a box of crackers. That takes a unique talent.

And, if you fancy yourself as being good at this and you believe that your talent shouldn’t go unnoticed. I would suggest adding a dozen eggs to the list of items you are trying to balance as you struggle your way to the express checkout. I think most grocery stores have express checkouts where you are only eligible to participate if you have less than eight items.

There always seems to be someone trying to get to the line ahead of me whenever I am doing this balancing act. It just adds another degree of difficulty that I welcome.

The express line itself is a story worth telling. I almost always see people trying to bend the rules and get away with nine or 10 items.

I doubt that you would ever get thrown in jail for breaking the express line rules. Life in prison for overloading the grocery cart!!

Until there is a real law against it I will be the guy racing to the end of the line with my arms full trying to beat the lady with 15 items and an innocent look on her face.

Of course … there are ways to avoid this. Get a cart and go early!

But, who is that prepared?!?
