Intelligence = Interest?

Just something that was on my mind for a while, thought I’d write about it.

A strange thought crossed my mind the other day. It came when my friend mentioned to make good art, you have to be truly dedicated. So I started thinking to be truly dedicated to something, you really have to really enjoy what your doing. Then a thought popped into my mind, what if intelligence and skill is based on interest?

I know it’s a strange thought, but think about it. If a person liked what they’re doing, the more they would want to pursue what they’re doing, and therefore getting better at it.

Let’s take drawing for example. If someone enjoys drawing they will do it more, practice it more. They would learn what looks good, what makes this pop out, how to draw your eye to that. Now because they have drawn so much, they are now more skilled artists.

The same goes with knowledge. They more interested a person is in a certain subject, the more likely their mind will retain such information and the more knowledgeable they will be in that subject.

So if your interested in something you will do it more, and then the better you will get at it.

    It’s not really that strange, you like writing and you’re good at it, and the more you write the better you will become

    How true. The worlds best mechanic would probably not build much of a house,and the builder would probably have to walk if he tried to fix his car.
    I know a man who is a genius with numbers, but a disaster around tools. So, you are right, good thinking, Bator.

    Interesting thought. I think you’re right in part, but also believe there’s more to it than just interest. Anyway, you’d first have to come across a good definition of intelligence – what is it?
