Murphy’s Law
Murphy’s Law states that if anything can go wrong, it will go wrong, and at the worst possible moment. My life so far has seemed to pivot around this statement.
Many times I will find things not going my way and even if they are going in the direction I want, they are not going well. I find Murphy’s Law coming into effect in many areas in my life but one I am going to specifically recall.
My girly blue, actually purple, Mitsubishi Mirage was my first car when I turned 16. A college student from my church had slung a rod in her engine and it ended up with two nice sized holes in the engine block. Of course my parents saw that as the perfect car and bought it for $500, keeping in mind that I can always put in my own engine. After owning the car and inspecting it I came to find that my cigarette lighter did not work, which I was going to use to power some accent lights. Without the little things that were wrong, the car was perfect.
The imperfections increased from the inside of the car to the outside. Once my dad and I had installed the new engine, many new problems began to arrive. For one my hood would not stop squeaking especially whenever my car was idling it would make this squeaking horrendous. We figured it to be the rubber pads to stop the hood from moving but when we called the Mitsubishi place they didn’t have any more in stock. The rubber pieces were odd pieces to find and today we still don’t have any.
Once I had the car for a year my parents decided to reward me with a new hood and paint job. My dad and I easily installed the new hood and it was a perfect fit. It no longer squeaked like the other hood and it went hand in hand with my new paint job. However this paint job didn’t come without its own trouble. Once we were able to decide on a color, it was in the paint shop for a few days longer than usual.
They decided to call us and tell us they had painted it the wrong color and that it was going to be a few more days before we could get it back. So Saturday, which was 3 days late of the original date, we went to pick it up and when we opened the doors the paint on the inside of the door jambs peeled off. Obviously the paint had not dried completely and now it would be another couple days before we would get it back. So a week and a half later we finally got my car back.
Now everything is perfect. There is no squeaky hood; I have a brand new paint job, and who cares about the cigarette lighter! My car looks amazing! But here comes Murphy’s Law again. One week later my new hood started to squeak. I got a bubble on my back right tire which caused everything to vibrate violently. I wound up having to get four new tires. Now here I am with a beautiful car that only has one problem, Murphy’s Law greatly affects it.

I enjoyed this story and laughed in spite of the fact that you would not find it nearly as amusing as I. I do hope you get to enjoy your car.
Great job and welcome to Triond.

Good old Murphy, still popular after all these years
Life’s a beach and then you die! All in the name of good humour, very funny story.
I can certainly relate, as Murphy has been my sidekick all of my life!
