Shopping Cart Survival Guide
If you hate going into the shopping cart arena, here’s help for all of us.
My understanding of shopping carts is they are meant to hold items easily before you make your purchase. In the eyes of some, they are now lethal weapons, easily causing much stress from a simple shopping experience. I have included both the woman and man’s view of this topic.
It’s Like A Car, But It Is NOT A Car
They do not come with brakes, turn signals or back up lights and horns. The person behind you will most likely not anticipate your moves, so please be considerate .If
backing up, please check behind you . We all value our toes and kneecaps to help us get around with our carts. Men should keep assured clear distance behind women with carts as a safety precaution until they are more experienced in the shopping world. Some of the men are like babes in the woods out there, and we expect you to return home with the goods with no injuries.
Shopping Carts Are Not Permitted or Regulated
Anyone can take one around the store, with no age limit. Your children should have at least a small brief summary about driving the cart if you choose to let them take the helm. ( This is where fellow shoppers value their ankles.) Elderly parents must be monitored from time to time to make sure their skills are not slipping. Remember not everyone gets to keep his or her state issued driver’s license forever. There comes a time to just give it up and deal with it.
Speeding Can Cause Problems
Watch for the slow movers, they are like turtles on the freeway . Trying to just zip around them can cause a broadside hit if they decide to make a sudden turn. Some eggs could break , sending you back to the dairy section once again. (Back to checking eggs).
Watch for Children
They can be lurking (because of shortness), below your eye level of shopping carts around you . They are excited to be somewhere where all their favorite stuff is stacked up in big aisles just waiting to be picked, and slam dunked in the cart.
The ones you hear crying sometimes just can’t understand they can’t have those cookies when all those meat and veggie items can be put back in order to make room for the cookies. Watch for them in the parking lot. They are fast , they are on a mission.
Being Distracted Can Cause Injuries to Others
If my ankles were run into, I would expect it to be child trying to handle the shopping cart. But it is annoying to turn to see it is an adult concentrating too much on the cell phone or an arsenal of coupons, to watch out where they are going.
Use Caution Around Stacked Displays
Yes it sure does look like you can make it around it, but be careful. All those tricky ones that are stacked at an angle come down like bowling balls if stacked with cans and you may feel the pain. Some poor college student will have to re build that stack as well as the zillion other things they have to do on that shift.
Know When It’s Time to Pull Over
If you see a friend and want to chat, or one of the kids in distress, pull it off the aisle, or to the side. No one wants a major pile up with out signs to tell us who has the right of way when it’s over.
Popping Wheelies
Yea it used to be cute , but aren’t you a little old for that now? Tell it to the grand kids.
I am now a much safer and considerate cart driver. I am helping to provide a safer shopping environment for new shoppers and men everywhere I go.
