The Protocols and Rituals of Life
We are very ritualistic in nature, and it shows by what we do in everyday life.
On television or in the movies they often show us occult or religious rituals that pretty much seem like they are out there. On the television show Supernatural, Sam and Dean Winchester use those rituals to expel demons along with their revolvers. Rituals may seem odd things for many of us, but they are a regular are part of everyday life along with protocols.
Yes, we all may have at one time or another had the experience of the religious ritual. Going to church every Saturday or Sunday, or whatever is required of one’s faith is just one example of something that we all have become use to.
Rituals are not just religious they are also part of everyday life. We just call them protocols instead. These are other hoops, which we unfortunately have to jump through to get through to things. One of the best examples is job hunting. You do the same things repeatedly. You create a resume, apply for a position, follow up for an interview and so on and so forth. You keep following the protocols until you get what you desire. The important thing is the following of the protocols.
Not following the protocols or rituals can be a faux pas. It is very acceptable to do more than what is required as oppose to less. Even to the person performing the ritual it may not feel right. Betty Suarez in Ugly Betty, felt guilty because she received the position as Daniel Meade’s assistant because she looked common, not because she could do the job that was required. She had to prove to herself as well to others that she was more than capable which she was more than able to do because the whole Meade family trusts her.
There are other rituals and protocols that we live with that we are so use to, we hardly consider them rituals, but they are a very important part of our culture. We are all very ritualistic by nature.
