The Theory of Stationary Thoughts
The older I get, the more I seem to forget. I have a theory to explain why… or possibly just an excuse.
Have you ever walked into a room and suddenly realised you’ve forgotten why you’re there? I have a theory. I call it my Stationary Thought Theory. I think what actually happened is that you left your thought behind when you moved. It’s probably hovering in the air somewhere back there just waiting for you to go and get it. All you have to do, is go back to where you originally had the thought, and, BINGO, there it is again! Try this, it really works!
I suspect that the older I get, the wiser I am. Therefore my thoughts have more weight, and are more likely to get stuck in the earth’s gravity field. Or at least, that’s what I tell my kids.
I’m also getting more and more lazy about going back to get my thoughts. I’ve seriously considered training my dog to fetch them. So far I haven’t had much luck with this project. The dog just looks at me like I’m crazy. Which I probably am.
Sometimes, if I’m lucky, someone else will actually get it for me. Usually, it’s my husband. I’ll be standing in front of a closet scratching my head, wondering why I’m there, when I hear him hollering from the bathroom. “Honey, where’s the toilet paper?!” Ah, that was it. Another thought I left… ahem… behind.
