The Top Ten Reasons I Hate Daylight Savings Time
The world is full of control freaks who change time for everyone.
- No time is actually gained – it’s just borrowed from me! Shouldn’t I be given interest? Every time I borrow anything, I have to pay interest. Time is money, right? And according to everything I’ve read, DST is actually costing Indiana residents more money.
- There’s always one clock I forget to reset. Sure, I try to remember them all, and many of them reset themselves now, thanks to the internet and satellite connections. But there’s always one clock.
- In spring, that clock will be the one I rely on to get me up or to places on time. Yep, my alarm clock, my travel alarm, whichever applies!
- Pets. Pets do not understand changed routines. Fido does not like it when I feed him late. Not that he wants to wait at all, but late is blasphemy to a cat. Early, in spring, is no problem, but never, ever late!
- I know it’s going to stay dark later and get dark earlier as we approach winter solstice, but 4:30? Come on! I’d like a few minutes of daylight during rush hour, even after I get home. Or in the morning, at least. As it is, if you are a typical 8-5 worker, you can leave in darkness, work indoors an entire day, leave in darkness, and not see the sun for months! I never wanted to live at the North Pole, thanks!
- Did I mention the clock I forgot? The alarm clock in fall that wakes me an hour early? I hate getting up early as it is, getting up an hour earlier than I need to is just plain wrong.
- Sorry, I fell asleep.
- Morning cold. Not sure which is worse, Florida shock or Indiana shock. Still too cold. Wake me up when it gets warmer. Or not, I don’t mind sleeping in. Yes, it’s after midnight as I write this, why do you ask?
- DST was Ben Franklin’s idea. Can you really trust a guy who once wrote a book titled Fart Proudly? (No, I am not kidding. Look it up. I actually own a copy.)
- My biological clock is ticked off! It takes me six months to adjust for that one hour of lost sleep. At least.
