I am the youngest of the baby-boomers. There are many older boomers in this generation, in fact the first baby boomer just began to collect on their social security last year. I am sure that all from the baby boomer generation will be able to relate to these things. We grew up when women didn’t work, blacks didn’t vote, the back of the bus was reserved, and when there was only a one car garage on most homes (who the heck had two cars?). Most of our mothers didn’t drive. We came home from school for lunch. We had vinyl records, 8 track tape players, then cassettes. We had drive in theater, and the typical sit down. Nobody watched movies at home.

• I never thought I would live long enough, or become old enough, to step into a grocery store and hear Kiss playing as instrumental “elevator” type music.
• I never thought I would see Caroline Kennedy on the cover of AARP magazine.
• I never dreamed that Rod Stewart would be cutting new music, classic music directed toward seniors. And actually pulling it off!
• I never thought I’d see my mother smile while listening to Rod Stewart!
• I never thought I would see Steven Tyler on stage jumping around in leotards when he was well over 50. (how does he do that?!)
• I never thought I would see women running for President.
• I never thought I’d see a black man running against a woman for President.
• I never thought I would see Gene Simmons ( you know, the tongue guy from Kiss) on a reality show, wealthy….with well adjusted kids.
• I never thought Ozzie would still be alive….heck, wasn’t he old back then?
• I never thought that I would live long enough to relate to “old people”.
• I never thought I would look at Jon Bon Jovi on-stage and say “dang, he’s still hot”.
• I never dreamed there would literally be at least one computer in almost every household.
• I never imagined a flat TV screen!
• I never thought I’d tune in to an “oldies” channel. Only now they call it “classic”, and I know all the words to the music!
• I never thought my boobs would sag….only OLD people’s boobs sag!
• I never thought John Travolta would still be a sex symbol!
• I never thought…..just when the hell did Michael Jackson become a white woman???
• I never imagined there would be a little robot vacuuming my floors!

Yes, we would watch the Jetsons on Saturday morning cartoons, and never imagine that there would really be a phone with which you could see a person to whom you were speaking, there would be something that made food fast in our kitchen, or there would be a robot responsible for household chores. These things were imaginary things of the prospective future, dreamed up by a writer for a cartoon show. But yet, here they are, and here we are in the “imaginary future”.

Now if someone would please teach me how to USE these gadgets, I would be good to go!
