Transition From Youth to Maturity
A humorous look at how to preserve your dignity as you grow older.
Each generation finds a new way to separate themselves from the “establishment”, coming up with new trends, fashions and ideas for self expression. These ideas are often shocking and misunderstood by the “older generation” which in itself serves to somewhat validate their purpose.
The world has seen a magnitude of questionable practices in many shapes and forms. Many parents have been distraught with their children’s seeming lack of judgement and taste, only to be met by more profound resistance. Most find it best to concede and hope that their children out grow such “odd” behavior.

There comes an age when there must be some compromise between youth and maturity. What was once considered acceptable at a young age, may not seem appropriate as we grow older. Sometimes we must part with our beloved personal accessories in order to preserve our pride and dignity. Following are a few insights and suggestions to help with this transition:
- If it’s time for bifocals its probably time to give up the eyebrow jewelry
- Tongue rings may crack your new dentures
- Spiked hair will only make the bald spots stand out more
- Speedos will not hide the cellulite
- The most beautiful belly button ring won’t be noticed next to your gall bladder scar
- Midriff blouses are not for midriff bulge
- Lastly, thongs and depends just won’t cut it
It can be very traumatic to realize we are not as young as we once were. However, we have the choice of doing it gracefully and laugh at ourselves or be stubborn and make ourselves the joke of others.
