Today is a new day! It can’t be reproduced, it is what it is! It has opportunities waiting to be uncovered. The media wants us to buy into the hype of how bad it really is, but let’s face it folks, it’s up to us to create the change from the ground up, through our own efforts. Nobody can make it better for us than we can, you and me. A friend of mine, many years ago, got laid off from his railroad job. He was pretty depressed about life, but realized that he liked to build things, so he told a friend that he would like to build him a screened in patio for only the cost of the materials, just to see if he could do a commercially acceptable job.

This seemed to be an acceptable proposal, being fairly inexpensive for the neighbor-friend, and the job was done acceptably and launched what is now a multi million dollar screened enclosure business here in the Tampa Bay area. I see his ads all the time in papers and elsewhere. He got lemons by being layed off and made lemonade for himself and his family. My cousin’s husband lost his job a few years ago went to another company in Denver and offered to work for free for a period of 2 years for a 5% stake in the company. He had experience in the field but times were tough and few were hiring.

This was going to be hard times for him for sure, working with no paycheck and tightening the belt would be a lot of sacrifice, but they did as best they could for those two years. After the time was up, the company got sold to a large company for $120 million! His take was $6 million! Because of  sales of properties they were holding on to beyond the sale, he just got 4 more million dollars! This guy (my cousin’s husband)  was my college room mate was always broke and could never take trips with me and my other frieds due to lack of funds, but he’s really making up for lost time now!

I know that my cousin and him had tough times in years past but not anymore, they’re riding high on that gamble he took 5 or 6 years ago.   We can do the same, if need be we must turn off the T.V. and see the opportunties right in front of us and become prepared to take advantage of them, no one else can create the life we’ve always imagined for ourselves but we, as individuals with God’s help and the open and free society we live in in the new millenium. So go for it! Find something you can excell and create a new economy with you in the driver’s seat!
