Privateering for Fun and Profit: A Piratical Name
Welcome to lesson two of Privateering for Fun and Profit! In today’s lesson we will be focusing on the best methods of acquiring your pirate name. Be sure to stay tuned for further lessons on how to be a successful buccaneer.
Now that you have got yourself an eye patch you will be needing a proper name to be called by. Also it will help when dodging the bill collectors who want their payment for that huge ruby you bought to put in your eye patch. There are many ways that pirates choose their name.
Do you have a distinctive feature such as a big bushy beard, or a horrendous scar? If so the inclusion of this in your name will help your crew and enemies identify you easily. If you are lacking the requisite malformation or oddity to easily create a pirate name do not worry. Firstly you can always lose a leg and add “Peg Leg” to your name, or a hand and “the Hook” to your nomenclature. We here at Privateering for Fun and Profit take no responsibility for any injures incurred while trying to maim yourself.

If you have a particularly nasty habit of swearing this can be used as well. Do note though that sailors are known for their foul language and for this to apply you have to make other sailors blush. You could adapt a “Black Mouth” with some practice. We here at Privateering for Fun and Profit take no responsibility for any injures incurred while trying to practice for the title of “Black Mouth.” We also recommend staying out of churches and away from bingo halls if you wish to utilize this method.

What if you are pretty and don’t like to swear? No worries there are plenty of pirates who use charm and good looks to win over the ladies and out smart the Royal Navy; in the movies. Now is the time to put away your real cutlass and eye patch, replace them with plastic ones, free your parrot and move to Hollywood. Pirates are foul mouthed creatures who are not known for their looks, get used to it. If you don’t believe me go check out some photos of Triond’s own Captain BoJack.

If you are still having trouble finding yourself a good name, just try and be creative, something will come to you. If not we have included the links to several free web sites that provide their services in naming wayward pirates. One of them is bound to generate something that will inspire the fear of God in your enemies, or at least make them chuckle behind your back.
