Is Future Weather Really So Bad?

The future weather isn’t so bad if you really think about it.

You hear all these negative things about an increase in the global temperature. There will be flooding. There will be lost coral reefs and fishing areas will decrease. There will be a migration of birds to shorter southern locations. There will be a change in southern environments with trees dying and moving North and desert land increasing.

Please! People lighten up!

First there are major cities and highways in the south do you honestly believe the US would let a thing like lack of rain or increase in sea levels to abandon these areas? Come on. First people would band together and build huge levies to keep the water at bay. Then they would either build huge pipes to bring in water from the north, paid for by the Florida tax payer, or pay for water to be shipped in.

I mean we have to be realistic. I can’t imagine that we would let Miami or Fort Lauderdale flood? In fact there might be a new industry of water production. If it really gets hot enough down their what is to stop some private or public companies from banding together and using solar power to desalinate the ocean water to make fresh water for the big cities. I mean solar power is coming into its own. How about wind turbines desalinating ocean water? Whatever is done there will be a mass market for dikes and fresh water. Look what happened with New Orleans. There was a push to just abandon it and build a better city further in land. What happened? New Orleans was saved.

So now are these weather changes bad for NYC. There will be a rise in seal level that might mitigate dikes having to be placed in low lying areas. But if coral reefs and tropical fish are moving south to cooler ocean water then we might become the new Miami of the east coast. New reefs and water discharge standards could lead to cleaner water. We might actually get very clear water like in South which is great because considering how hot it would be we might like to just go to the beach a lot.

In fact air conditioner sales would go through the roof because of the new heat waves and with that would be an influx of air condition repair men.

I won’t lie. A few extra degrees during out summer times would be bad. We would just have to adapt and either stay in a/c or go to water destinations. But the fact that oh my god it’s going to be worse than it already is kind of wrong. If you went out last summer or the summer before and you felt hot you’re going to feel hot in future summers too. It’s not like we can put a huge sunshade over NYC.

Summers are hot and winters are cold. These are just the norms we have to deal with. It being any worse doesn’t seem so bad when you realize that you spent most of the summer in A/C at work swam at the beach, or lounge in the pool at the water park.
