Scientists at the National Institute of Human Science and Technology in the U.K. have developed a pill that can stop human hair from growing. The pill, which has been hailed as the most important breakthrough since the invention of penicillin will shortly be available on prescription through the NHS. Clinical trials of the pill have been a resounding success according to Dr. Brian Weatherly, Head of Biochemistry at the Institute.

“The many varied uses of the pill will have a beneficial effect for the medical profession. For instance, prior to surgery many patients need shaving to remove all hair from certain parts of their anatomy, which patients do find uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassing. The patient will be prescribed the pill one month prior to surgery, the patient shaves the required area in private at home therefore eliminating any discomfort or embarrassment. The pill prevents hair growth for the required length of time. Hair growth will return when you stop taking the pill.”

I suggested other uses the pill could used for, such as creating and keeping that perfect hair length.

“Yes, that’s very true. You would only need to start taking the pill after you’ve visited the hairdresser and your hairstyle would remain the same for as long as you kept taking the pill.”

I asked Dr. Weatherly if the pill would go on sale to the public in the near future?

“Since publishing our findings in late 2008, the Institute has received quite a lot of interest from the general public. We have recently had discussions with one of the leading drug companies and further talks will take place very soon.”

I asked if we could expect a date for the pill to go on sale to the public?

“In my opinion, the pill could be made available over the counter within the year.”

From a personal point of view, I think it would be fantastic never having to visit the hairdresser again. It would also mean I’d never have to compliment the wife on her lovely new hairdo ever again!
