The Rabbit and the Tar Wolf: The Enron Parody
Once upon a time, a severe drought threatened the forest community and all the local animals which called it home.
There was no more water in the creeks and springs. So these animals held a council meeting in order to promote some leaders and figure out what to do about this. The Wolf appointed himself first, since he had the most political sway. Then the Wolf appointed the Fox, since he knew this Fox was a good interrogator and problem solver. And finally, since the Fox and the Wolf could not agree on any of the others to recruit, they finally settled, though somewhat reluctantly, on the Rabbit. Despite his acknowledged selfishness and laziness, they believed the Rabbit could provide fruitful means, though likely through quite abstract measures.
Then the Wolf, the Fox, and the Rabbit collaborated and decided where to dig a well – though the Rabbit soon deceptively formed an additional agenda of his own. They fully agreed upon a plan of action they would use and prepared the means necessary, and then the Rabbit thought of a way to dodge duty. He knew that none of these animals had been this far out, so he warned that they would not know what to expect. By claiming a reason to head back to the community for precautionary items necessary for warmth and shelter later that evening, his immediate duty had lifted.
So the Rabbit headed back. By the time he arrived, he had fabricated a story for his forest community. He told of another community that he and the other two had discovered. He claimed that this fictional community started a pool of funds to assist in this quest, and then he appealed to the sense of greed in his own comrades to create a lucrative exchange rate. These funds equated into donated food, straw, and shelter investments, which he claimed would all be doubled upon return right along with more than a healthy abundance of water. So each animal who invested, in the end, would become far more content in life than he or she had ever yet been. That Rabbit left the next morning confident that he had attained enough commodities to exempt any harsh reaction or uninvited haste from the Wolf and the Fox.
Upon returning to the chosen site for the well, as the Rabbit had expected, both the Wolf and the Fox were immediately preoccupied by these goods before they could express any wrath. They were delighted to see the wealth and currency that the Rabbit furnished by the quantity of practical supplies he brought with him. Once they were all three again focused on the job at hand and finally clear that the end was in sight, the Rabbit then fabricated a completely separate tale of a means to profit that he would share with the Wolf and the Fox. By the same means of this shell company he had created to be destroyed in his trickery before the community, the Rabbit realized that he could slightly switch the same story around in order to dupe these other two influential members.
By use of political means to asphyxiate moral principles, the Rabbit first aimed to persuade the Wolf into assuring the community of a profit margin to join this upcoming plenitude of water; the Wolf then took the option to tell of this seemingly insignificant natural gas pipeline that they’ve discovered – insignificant, at least, in comparison to the weighted importance of the water well, but significant in that it would later serve a vital purpose. This articulation, the Rabbit assured the Wolf, would grant more power than he could ever comprehend. So the Wolf aided the Rabbit mainly through forms of political donations to build-up this straw-man tactic, and then the profit margin between the two became quite circular.
When the Rabbit confronted the Fox, however, the Rabbit detected a bit of skepticism. But then he immediately dismissed any uncertainty; little did the Rabbit know, however, that the Fox planned to set up his own Tar Wolf variation by influencing his friends in the investigatory fourth estate. He intended to inform them that the Rabbit’s accounting records have been fraudulent and inconsistent. And just as he thought he would, soon after encouraging this investigation this Fox learned of the largest political scandal in this forest community’s history. The painful part about this scandal, however, rested in the closely-knit reflection it held to the selfish and unscrupulous ploys of this deceitful community as a whole.
Rabbit (Surface “Trickster”) = Enron – CORPORATE
Wolf = Political (reflects senator and spouse) – POLITICAL
Fox (underlying “Trickster”) = questions fraudulent FISCAL practices
