What Was The Greatest Thing Before Sliced Bread?
And the best thing before that? And that?
The first time bread came prepackaged and sliced was back in 1928. This saved much time for the common household as their bread is already sliced instead of them having to slice it themselves.
This is how the term “Best thing since sliced bread” was coined. Because there were so many people that were happy for this change.
But the question really should be, “What was the best thing BEFORE sliced bread.” And before you go off and say my Wii! Or television! or Internet! Keep in mind those things are all modern. Way after sliced bread.
Ahhh… the wheel. What would we do without the wheel. This made transporting things much more easier, since they probably figured out that cube ‘wheels’ would not work. If today’s language were used back in 5000 BC when the wheel was first created, people would say “Best thing since the wheel”.
The knife makes everyones daily work easier in a sense now when they put butter on bread its easy to spread. Of course with modern times come modern knifes and now there is a vast majority of knifes used for many different things. Truly after the wheel, the knife must’ve been the next best thing
Bread dates back to way back, more then 2000 years. Bread is a basic food and is very fufilling. My hat goes off to whoever came up with bread, and like before I am sure bread was next best thing after the knife.
Butter on toast? Butter on anything? It makes it better, yes? Butter really revolutionized bread. As now it had some flavor in it. Best thing after bread was butter.
Packaged but un-sliced bread
This might even beat out regular sliced bread because now people don’t have to make their own bread which I can assure you takes more time then slicing bread. Writing things like this makes me happy that I was born in the late 1990’s.
And after packaged but un-sliced bread. The greatest thing was sliced bread. But what about after sliced bread? Canned bread?
