Snow in February is Snow Joke
We may have escaped snow at Christmas, but it’s here now with a vengeance. Read on to find out more.

The Snow is Here
There is something very appealing about a white Christmas, and often Christmas cards are adorned with winter snow scenes, whether we have it or not. In a romantic sense, the idea of Father Christmas, complete with sleigh and reindeer, driving across the snow to deliver our Christmas presents, whether you are a child or an adult, simply adds to the Christmas spirit.
But the reality of a white Christmas is often very different in England. Snow causes havoc, with planes cancelled, and people unable to take their holidays, motorways and roads closed, so families can’t get together to celebrate this very special time. Schools are closed, and outings cancelled, in fact life almost grinds to a halt.
It is particularly hard for vulnerable people like the elderly, maybe living alone , with no-one visiting, they may be forced to spend Christmas alone. Many people can’t get to work because transport is cancelled, and not everyone can work from home.
Well this year we appeared to be having a very mild winter, that is until February came. Mother nature has decided the time for snow is here, so out come my gloves and scarf, long boots and thick coat. The heating stays on all day, and a bowl of soup is most welcome to warm my inside.
When I walk my dog, I marvel at the beauty of the scene, with snow covering the paths and steps I have to take care. Not so Leo, he bounds excitedly through this fluffy white substance, even tasting it, and somehow he doesn’t slip over either.
Dads and children are out in force, tobogganing. Well the dads are, whilst little Jimmy runs along behind asking when it will be his turn. Snow means fun, and they are making the most of it, because it doesn’t usually last that many days.
For now we are content to leave the car in the garage, and just keep warm. We have cleared our paths, just in case the postman will brave it tomorrow, what a hard job they have in this weather. We don’t need to go far, nothing is that urgent, so for now we will just enjoy the beauty of winter out of our window, and be grateful that we can stay warm and comfortable until it melts away.
