Ten Reasons Not to Get Out of Bed Today

Published by Annie Hintsala in Humor
April 10th, 2011

Other than its Sunday, here are my top ten reasons not to get out of bed, any day of the week.

  1. Its cold. Really cold, the kind of cold that seeps into your bones and makes your poor toes numb. Bed is warm.

  2. If you get out of bed you will be tacitly surrendering to the fact that you are actually well enough to go to work. If you stay in bed you can kid yourself that you are indeed too sick to make the trek to work, and that the cold that is out of bed would simply make you sicker.

  3. All those books aren’t going to read themselves. Reading is always better snuggled up in bed with warm blankets and fluffy pillows.

  4. Housework. You know its there, waiting for you. Lurking. Ready to pounce. It will still be there tomorrow.

  5. Yard work. Like the housework, yard work is also sitting by-waiting. While being in bed doesn’t make it go away, it does make the sound of the mower a distant, unpleasant memory.

  6. These comic books aren’t going to read themselves. See number three.

  7. Avoiding people you want to avoid is almost always easier in bed. Don’t know about you, but my bed is only for one to two people. Maybe three. Anyway, not the hordes that exist outside the covers, outside the bedroom door and outside the house.

  8. Quiet. Generally, the amount of noise in your bedroom is controlled by you. You might have noisy neighbors, but if you position your bed near an open window you can easily throw things at them and taunt them in a satisfying way.

  9. Food can be just as easily eaten in bed as out of it. The only problem would be getting someone to deliver said food to your bed. If your partner has also elected to stay in bed, might I suggest rock-paper-scissors?

  10. These video games aren’t going to play themselves. This would necessitate the forethought to put your gaming system in your room. Worth it. Totally worth it.

It’s scary out there almost everything seems safer when you are hiding under the covers.

  14. Posted April 11, 2011 at 11:18 am

Very good list. I’ve also noticed that in the morning, gravity doesn’t take effect until after you get out of bed. Getting up would be going against the laws of gravity, and I am sure you are a law abiding citizen.
Our local radio station announces funeral notices every morning. If you hear your name, you don’t have to get up.

  15. Posted April 11, 2011 at 1:11 pm

I have to agree totally with you on this one. Although i dont think my boss will appreciate me calling in and saying, i cant come in today , as my bed needs me :)

  16. Posted April 11, 2011 at 2:28 pm

Some of these had me smiling ;-)

  17. Posted April 11, 2011 at 3:15 pm

Some excellent reasons for staying in bed. Forgot number 11, that been that by staying in bed, you can sit up with your laptop using Triond.

  26. Posted April 12, 2011 at 10:23 am

I’m going to stay in bed all week, methinks. :D

  27. Posted April 12, 2011 at 12:38 pm

Nice thought, but my work ethic won’t allow me to do it.

  28. Posted April 12, 2011 at 2:20 pm

All are certainly good reasons to stay in bed. However, if I were to leave the kids to fed for themselves it would be a disaster.

  29. Posted April 13, 2011 at 6:57 am

I love to sleep on my cozy bed. Unless it’s an emergency, I refuse to wake up early on Sundays. That’s my only day to sleep in late.

  41. Posted April 15, 2011 at 4:21 am

Sometimes you have to get out of bed even if you don’t want to :)

  42. Posted April 15, 2011 at 2:01 pm

You could be my friend because these are my sentiments indeed on a daily basis. Spirit might be willing but the flesh is weak. I go to work but at times I just hate it.

  43. Posted April 15, 2011 at 4:34 pm

    You’ve convinced me!

  44. Posted April 15, 2011 at 5:40 pm

  49. Posted January 26, 2012 at 11:48 am

I agree, but I am on the couch with the blanket and the laptop at work. Too bad, if it wasn’t for some Desperate Housewives to cheer me up in a few minutes on telly.
