The Smarter Gender: Men or Women?

The battle of the sexes continues in the 21st century as an age old question starts to be raised for debate again: Are women today smarter than the men?

Now this article is sure to raise a few eyebrows and may even lead to a few comments, but whether a serious look or fun perception of the topic, we will have a look at why we still ask this question.

Firstly men like to be or at least appear to be the “dominant” sex. Well is that smart? To men we like to think we are by stating that. After all we are the protectors, the people that generally fixes things, builds homes and skyscrapers, rocket ships and the smart phrase men use at times, “Walk away when she is moaning or being *****!” (I’ll let you work that last word out)!!!

Women on the other hand are much more “layered” and would respond by stating that today many women have achieved such manual skills as much as intellectual ones, whilst keeping a home and the bills in order (something many men sometimes miss). To throw back at men the last statement about walking away, women would say “Well if you weren’t so dumb in the first place I wouldn’t have to moan and ***** would I?”

So you figure that one out! My take is the girls will smother us guys on that score and score the points.

HOWEVER, there have been studies about who is the more intelligent. One such one was in 2006.

The research conducted three years ago would enthral the men and totally infuriate all the women. The study was somewhat controversial and claimed that men were in actual fact more intelligent than women.

The ironic point about the study was that it was conducted by MEN! Now that will get the girls on here all in a pickle.

According to this study, it was found men’s IQ’s were an average of 4 points above the women. Another fact that would annoy the women was that John Philippe Rushton, a British-born researcher summarises that the study explains why many women FAIL to get to the very top in work environments. He also goes on to explain in his opinion that this is due to lack of intelligence rather than discrimination against promotions.

Now women, I the author, never said that. This was according to the study. And yes a study compiled by the gender with the penis!

Ruston, a psychologist, reached his controversial conclusion after carefully looking at the results of university aptitude tests taken by 100,000 students aged 17 and 18 of both sexes.

The study looked at a number of factors when trying to measure a level of intelligence, such as the ability to quickly grasp a complex concept, verbal reasoning skills and creativity. The study revealed the male teenagers had IQs that were an average of 3.63 points higher than their fairer sexed counterparts.

It must also be pointed out that the average person has an IQ of approximately 100

Before this study a 100 year consensus established that men and women average the same mental ability. This study also contradicts the belief that girls fair better than the boys in exam results. However, Rushton believes that this common belief is born out of the fact that in general terms, girls mature quicker than the boys.

One point that should favour the women though is that women score higher in “verbal tests”. With the men doing slightly better on “spatial tests” the two pretty much cancel each other out to conclude that both sexes are equally average.

Maybe this is why men are better at reading maps and knowing which direction to point the car, whereas women know how to speak without using colourful metaphors in a sentence (swearing for those less intelligent to pick up on that)!

Rushton believes the differences could be linked to the size of your brain, with men having larger brains. He believes this size means a higher number of neurons in a man.

What women will argue is whilst that may be the case, what are the majority of those neurons doing? Probably thinking about football, sex or how many pints to drink later that night, would be a guess.

Still when it comes to dating and picking your mate, women can be and usually are very selective. Women generally prefer a man who shows a mature level of intelligence in order to pass down the gene pool to siblings. A genetic trait pre-programmed into women for thousands of years.

It is thought the difference may date back to the Stone Age, with women seeking out men who are more intelligent than them in a bid to pass on the best genes to their children.

There has been harsh criticism as it has been suggested that Rushton’s results could have been skewed by the inclusion of more females than form males.

Rushton was noted for causing a storm some years ago when he sparked an argument claiming behaviour and intelligence was linked to race.

His research does support British research which showed men have bigger brains and higher IQs than women. This perhaps explains why chess grandmasters and geniuses are usually male.

But the women will argue and continue to argue. Men can smart we are the more intelligent, but as the author of this article whether we believe that or not is put to the test. Why? Well take divorce for instance. Who walks away in general terms with the house, the car, half your savings and their dignity held high?

What about those men who are in a happy relationship?

Well measure a woman’s intelligence when she creeps round you and lets you watch the sport or drink down the pub with your mates. You think she is being nice? Take a step back guys, she is perhaps just being extremely intelligent in manipulating you to buy her that expensive dress or pay for her new haircut at the weekend.

Guys, that’s what we should be looking at!

Now who is the more intelligent…?

Well guys, it isn’t usually us, is it?
