These restaurants would be just another eating place if not for the waiters. All of them are small people.

There are only two known all-dwarf staff restaurants today, one in Egypt and another in the Philippines.

These eating places would be just another ordinary restaurant if not for their waiters. All of them are small people.  The waiters are working happily because it’s the only place in the world where their height is considered normal. They are not mocked, instead they become celebrities.

Dwarves of the East

Dwarves of the East is a popular small coffee shop located in Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt. It all started when a shortie complained to Ahmad Al Kilani, a lawyer that he was fired from his job as a mechanic because of his height.  Kilani thought that the best way to help him and his fellow dwarfs was to start a café business. When the café opened its doors, many dwarfs applied for a job. Al Kilani called the café ‘Dwarves of the East’ to emphasize the fact that short people are part of our world and society.

Hobbit  House is a world famous bar and folk house in the Philippines.  It now has two branches in the country: Ermita and Boracay. The first branch was founded in 1973 by Jim Turner, a former Peace Corps volunteer who was so inspired by the book Lord of the Rings. Based on that J.R. Tolkien Trilogy, all the waiters at this bar are dwarfs.

From the front door up to the cashier, you will be taken care of by friendly, charming and always smiling little people. Every night aside from their jobs as waiters, they can also be seen happily posing for pictures with tourists and travelers alike. The bar has a dark, smoke-filled ambience where 100 different kinds of beer from around the world are offered. The bar is open daily from 5 pm-2 am.
