Which is Better – The Vulcan Salute or The Peace Sign?

60’s were the era of change, but that’s nothing compared to Star Trek. Peace or Logic who wins? I don’t know.

On the little considerations that come to my mind constantly like an inconsistent quick-time event that doesn’t know when to stop even when I could crush the control within my grasp at the mind numbing repetitive nature of it all.  This is how my mind keeps going over whether a simple Peace sign is needed or if a well meaning Vulcan Salute would serve me better.

Both have their little histories with the Vulcan Salute being the only one I’m well aware of, while the Peace sign is a little more of me finding it boring to research for an article like this….and so I simply give you this. Leonard Nimoy created the Vulcan Salute while the Peace sign was simply “…………………” I don’t know as I mentioned.

What connects them both? The answer to that would be the 60’s; one from the far fictional future and the other grounded into the real present reality where the Beatles were strong, everyone lived in a bubble safe from the realisation that we were steadily killing the planet and the Soviet Union still had power to send a unnerving shiver down the backs of many. What a time to live through as an overly confident soldier and annoyingly naive hippie.

So now that the blabbering is over, let’s get into the discussion of “Which is better?” a very mature way to spend an hour or two on my empty days. What do both give us? One came from somewhere to represent a generation and the other came to represent the emotionless movement of reason and logic, but the different between the two is simple…..one had “Live long and prosper” while the other doesn’t really have anything beyond a few memorable photographs taken of people using it.

You could easily argue the “Peace sign” is better because of what it actually tried to represent against the fiction race of Vulcan’s, but as someone who sees the world as annoying at best, I prefer the “Vulcan Salute” from what it means with those words of “Live long and prosper”. Giving it a whole lot better feeling compared to the simple “Peace sign” which for me could be used in accordance with anything like “Peace in your god damn death!” which gives a annoying feeling that I could be taking it out of context…..no wait I am.

I might’ve got my point across in a blurred manner, but simply I’m saying the Vulcan Salute makes for a better gesture, out of how you can use as a goodbye gesture or for anything out of the whole “Live long and prosper” thing…..*Vulcan Salute* Live long and prosper.
