Things to Do While Unemployed

Week eight of Unemployment.

The weekend was nice.  My best friend came into town and we spent the day together, hair, toes, lunch.  Plus she had to spend time with my kitten, Toby.  Her favorite of all time are orange and white and that is just what he is.  He is also extremely friendly; let’s everyone pick him up and just purrs and purrs.

Sunday was spent looking for cars with my mother.  Since she crashed hers into a pole, she is looking for a new one.  Well, not new, but recently owned.  Which reminds me – I saw a commercial some time ago about a dealership that was actually calling their used cars used cars instead of the PC formerly owned.  She has finally decided what she might be interested in purchasing which helps a lot.  She has decided that she likes the looks of Nissans currently.  That is fine with me.  My current car is a Nissan Sentra (gently used) and I absolutely love it.  Because I bought it used, I was lucky enough to get one that has all kinds of extras that drive the price up.  It is just too sad for me that the economy hadn’t tanked as much back in January or I would have been able to get a better deal.

My tests were on Monday for the school district position.  I’m glad I asked how to dress.  They were requesting more than jeans and tennis.  There were also a couple of men who made the cut.  You don’t see that as often.  My last major job, we had a male temp come in.  He was actually quite good, but the male brokers were uncomfortable having him in that subservient a position.

Watched “Dancing With the Stars” finale on Monday and was very impressed with all of the finalists.  Lance and Lacey were good, but I just do not like hip-hop, especially the music that goes with it.  Brooke and Derek scored perfect for their free-style and it was GREAT!  Warren and Kym were very good also.  I remembered to vote and am anxiously awaiting the final results to air on Tuesday.  I personally am rooting for Brooke and Derek.  Overall, they were the most consistent and best most of the time.

This is a pretty good summary on keeping your spirits up.

I say stay busy. Being unemployed is a great time to explore things you didn’t have time to do before. Spend more time with your family. Volunteer. Get active in your community. Work on making your living space better. Retrain for a new career. I started a blog in my spare time to give helpful hints of things to do that are free or cheap while your unemployed – http://www.fun-employment.com

Good luck my fellow unemployees. Chin up and make this a fun time.
