Length versus Height
Jimmy watched his best friend Willie shimmying up a pole with a tape measure stuck in his mouth. Once at the top, Willie held onto the pole with one hand and with the other, took out the tape measure, and held it at the top of the pole. He slowly slid back down the pole trying to measure it, but lost his grip and fell to the bottom. Willie shimmied up the pole again and like before, as soon as he tried to measure it, fell to the bottom. Jimmy could not watch anymore and had to intervene.
“Listen, wouldn’t it be easier to lay the pole down lengthwise and measure it that way?” Jimmy inquired.
“Now why would I want to go and do something like that? I don’t want to measure how long it is,” Willie said, “I want to measure how high it is.”
The short end of it
Overheard in shop class:
“Mr. V,” Larry said to his shop teacher, “I’ve cut this board two times and it is still too short.”
