Quickly gathering her robe she goes downstairs to search for him. He is found sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front him and appears deep in thought and just stares at the wall. She holds herself for a moment as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of coffee.

“John? What’s the matter?” she says as she enters the kitchen. “Why are you siting like that and down here at this time?”

The husband breaks his stare and looks at her. “Do you remember 20 years ago when we were dating, and
you were only 17?” he asks solemnly.

She smiles recollecting the fond memory.”Yes…I do,” she replies.

The man says nothing. Then he continues, “Do you remember when you father caught us in the back seat of my car?”

The woman moves over and lowers herself in a seat next to him .”Yes, I remember”.

“Do you remember when he shoved his shotgun in my face and said, “Either you marry my daughter, or I will send you to jail for 20 years?”

The woman frowns with obvious concern. “I remember that too”.

The husband sniffles, almost looking distraught and wipes another tear from his cheek. He looks at her with loss and says… “Well I would have gotten out today!”
