Toni Collette needs to be on this list. Her Philadelphia accent in the Sixth Sense was spot on.

Bad list. Hugh Laurie has one of the best fake accents on TV. I live in the midwest and used to live in Europe. His native accent is full blown Oxford English. On House MD his accent sounds like anyone born and raised in Michigan. I've been told by friends that it is much harder for a British actor to imitate an American accent than vice versa. Not to mention, Laurie has played roles imitating other accents as well. He's great. Kyra Sedgwich, on the other hand, has the worst fake accent I've heard in my life.

I enjoy the accents and am usually quite surprised when I hear an interview and find that some "Americans" in movies are really from other countries. It amazes me at how well they can carry off a different accent.

I agree with you that Gary Oldman is indeed the master of accents. However, considering that his character in the film State of Grace is a member of the Irish mob I wouldn't describe the accent he uses as Italian American.<br />
