A Nonchalant Doctor
What was even worse, he had a system by which his dispenser sold medical certificates. A person who wanted a day off from work could buy a medical certificate without even seeing the doctor. Sometimes, patients were given addictive pills and because lifelong contributors to his wealth. People with skin conditions were given standard ointment which cured them temporarily. But they were soon back as their rashes oreczema flared up again.

A Nonchalant Doctor
One of the evils of the affluent society are doctors who forget are men of medicine and behave more like traders of medicine. It is indeed sad that the Hippocratic Oath, once taken by those dedicated men and women who gave of themselves to heal the sick, had become a Hypocrites’ Oath by some businessmen in doctors’ garb.

Doctor X
Doctor X, whose name shall be so for the purpose of this essay, is one of these. He comes to his clinic in a Mercedes, arrives at about and is usually seen leaving about twelve or twelve thirty. We hear that he will not make house calls regardless of the nature emergency. However, he does go out to see some very rich patients (or maybe I should say clients) in their homes.
A Strong Sedative
We first heard of Doctor X, when a factory worker had got his hand mangled in a machine. The man was rushed to Doctor X’s clinic as it was the nearest one. But all Doctor X did was to give the poor man a strong sedative and let him sleep. Then, he asked is nurse to ring for an ambulance from the nearest hospital and sent the patient off. Doctor X did not even give the merest first aid. Perhaps he had forgotten how to treat such wounds and remembers only such medicine as antibiotics, painkillers and cough syrup.

Medical Certificate
What was even worse, he had a system by which his dispenser sold medical certificates. A person who wanted a day off from work could buy a medical certificate without even seeing the doctor. The Better Medical Care
Perhaps the worst of his crimes was never to refer serious cases to specialists at the hospitals. Only when there was serious breakdown did the alarmed patients rush off to a hospital on their own responsibilities. Yet, the patients kept coming. He had an air-conditioned clinic with attractive glossy magazine. And many of his patients felt the more money they paid the better medical care they were getting.

Simple Antibiotics
Doctor X did not take pride in curing his patients. He was not interested in following up his cases to see how they were faring. His clinic was a bust store selling medicine. What happened to the patients who took his medicine was of no concern to him. The knowledge that most ailments today can be treated by simple antibiotics has made him secure.
The close association between doctor and patient is absent. The comfort that a caring donor gives is missing. He has no time to give to his patients.

No Hint of Love
Doctor X is tall, with a round moon face and well marked eyebrows. He has a strong face, arrogant even; the face of someone who knows what he wants and usually gets it. He is always dressed in a full suit, with shining, well-polished patent leather shoes. There is a glint of gold here and there. He has all the appearances of a typical, successful businessman, which is what he really is. There is no hint of love or concern for his patients.

Wonderful expose. I loved the bit about the certificate dispenser.
I hope that thois doctor is a one off. Trust in doctors would soon be lost if we knew they were behaving like this. A good write.
