Are We Domesticated?

Describes the evolution of mankind to being domesticated and discusses whether or not this is a good thing.

We have become domesticated. Just as animals taken from the wilderness and raised in zoos or homes. I had this epiphany today while sitting in my car. I had my dog with me and thought “I would take her out but I don’t want to get wet.” (It was raining.) Then I thought, “What am I talking about, cave men used to run around in the rain all the time-in loin cloths!” But not now, now we need our umbrellas. We need our air conditioners, our cars, our McDonald’s. We have a fit if we forget our cell phones at home. What to do without our cell phones?

Isn’t it funny how far evolution has brought us. Has technology made us spoiled, domesticated dummies? Lord forbid if something does happen in 2012, what will we do? Will we be able to survive? Or as like the animals taken from the wilderness, die if we are returned.

In the primitive days we would scavenge, gather, and store our food. In the prairie days, every member of the family would assist in building homes, ride horses or use wagons, trade etc. In the modern days, we live with electricity, sewage systems, super grocery stores, fast food restaurants, and of course high tech devices. We do not even have to leave our homes if we choose. We can pay our bills from our computer, order from our computer, order delivery if we are hungry. There is also no trading in our modern days-it’s money, money, money.

Another thing I think our society has forgotten is relationships. I do not mean romantic, although now days that is all the term is used to describe. I mean the lending and borrowing friendships. The times when people truly cared enough to help their neighbor and intervene with strangers. -Not like now days when someone can see someone in desperate need of help and just keep walking. Ministers and physicians would come to your residence and assist you in need. Children, women, workers, and families would care for each other and spend time together.

2012 is a feared year among many with rumors of melting ice caps, planets throwing off our solar system, shifts in poles, etc. I am unsure of any of these events, but what I am sure of is our domestication. Sheer Darwinism will take place, if any of these events occur. Survival of the fittest and sadly, too many of us aren’t prepared or “fit” enough.
