This is an environmentally friendly recipe to rid your asparagus patch of asparagus beetles.

This is an environmentally friendly spray to deter the asparagus beetle. On the stove bring a pot of water to a boil and shut the stove off. Add the following ingredients to the pot.

  • 1 cup shredded rhubarb leaves
  • 3 cloves crushed garlic
  • 5 tablespoons freshly ground pepper
  • ½ cup shredded tomato leaves
  • ¼ cup shredded eucalyptus leaves
  • 1 cup shredded basil leaves
  • 1 cup shredded parsley leaves

Steep the above ingredients in hot water for 1 hour. Strain into a jar. Using a funnel transfer to a spray bottle. Spray plants at first sign of infestation. Spray again 3 days later. Don’t harvest for 2 weeks after spraying as rhubarb leaves are poisonous. Spray can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
