In their youth, they were a people who overturned tradition according to astrology.  Also known as Hippies, the Neptune in Libra generation touted some unrealistic ideals.

As divorce statistics will prove out, this is a generation of relationships. Timothy Leary, and Beatles songs like “All You Need is Love,” are good examples of this colorful generation.  The term, ‘Hippie Generation’ loosely wraps up a few of the traits, but there were many more labels applied to this enigmatic astrological grouping.

One of the best parts of the Neptune in Libra set is how the open-minded viewpoints from this era gave fertile ground to the arts and music culture of the times.  As Neptune astrology contributes to overall creativity, the entire art world experienced revolutionary changes during this time. 

Much of the music that became popularized during that era is still played on the radio to this day.  It’s incredible how songs that are thirty and forty years old are still popular.

Most of the folks born during this Neptune in Libra period were conceived after a long and tiresome war.  WWII had dominated life all over the globe. Once this generation of babies grew to be young adults, they instinctively didn’t like anything about war.  And as a result, they received another label – the Protest Generation.  

Marijuana went hand in hand with the revolutionary thinking and desire for peace, and also contributed to the ‘laid-back’ frame of mind.

War protests and racial riots marked this age of astrology. Unfortunately, the resulting violence from some of the brutal encounters mark this era with bloody confrontations that will always be remembered in history.

Yet the deception of Neptune combined with unrealistic Libra, and could only hold its spell for so long.  As this generation grew older, some of the golden ideals dissipated.  Many of the longhaired hippies cut their hair in exchange for a better job. Maturity inevitably led to a bit more realism.

Two Hippies at the Woodstock Festival

Libra is the sign of relationships.  Experimental living set-ups found the folks who wanted to live out on the land expressing this ideal at the historic Woodstock Festival.  Many thought they might live there forever.  The poor farmer, who granted access to his land for this event, had no idea he was making history while the visitors were communing and making love. This event expressed both the Neptune/creativity (music), and the Libra/relationship (communal) experience.

 Murmurings of political figures who had smoked marijuana are not so dramatic anymore.  Although the Neptune astrology of a few new generations has changed hands, unwanted warfare still remains a part of everyday life.
