Did My Wife Send Me a Psychic Message From Her Dream?
This may not be an earth shattering moment, but it’s one that surely cannot be explained away by sheer coincidence alone. I’d really appreciate comments on this from anyone who has experienced similar or who is just as intrigued as I am.

It’s a simple scenario. My wife and I are in bed, it’s approaching time to get up and the alarm has been off once already, but very quickly flicked onto ‘snooze’ as happens in countless bedrooms around the world I imagine.
My wife rolls over and puts her arm around me to give me a lovely morning hug. I say the most unexpected thing to her, which is, “Have you been smoking?”
My wife says, “Why did you ask that? Do you know what, that’s so odd?”
“I asked because as soon as you cuddled me, I could smell stale smoke on your breath. I know it’s odd, but that’s what I smelled.”
”Well that’s unbelievable,” my wife said, “Because I’d had a cigarette earlier in the day in the dream I was just having, and I never smoke in my dreams.”
Now, my wife has not smoked in twelve years, and I gave up the dreaded weed three and a half years ago myself. Believe me, my wife is not a closet smoker and neither am I. There really have been times that both of us could have gladly killed for a cigarette since we gave up, but my wife has never given in, and neither have I.
It was about the oddest thing I could have said to her there and then, and have certainly never said it before in the seven years we’ve been married.
Now the possible scientific argument.
Our bedroom windows were very slightly open, as was our shower room window. Our neighbours are non-smokers and they had no visitors having a very early morning puff either. There may be a very remote chance that some early morning commuter who was a smoker, was on their way to work past our house, on foot or even in a car at exactly that moment. As I said before, I am sure that my wife has not lapsed too!
It is possible yet unlikely that the odour from a person passing by, miraculously made its way forty feet, then through the small gap in our window, and then over to my nostrils alone, but to add to the oddity, the smell I smelled was of stale smoke on breath. Not a fresh smoke smell and not the acrid nicotine smell you get on your clothes after smoking, or being around smokers. As a smoker myself, I know the smell of smoker’s breath. I also know that I only smelled it for a few seconds and then it was gone.
My wife has had various psychic ‘episodes’ over the years, which are uncanny and in my mind simply beyond coincidence, but I am not usually privy to the same thoughts, sensations or phenomena. Did my mind read my wife’s during our slumber? Or did my wife’s thought somehow escape her mind and trigger a reaction in my own (smell apparently being the sense with the closest and strongest link to our memory and thought processes).
I’m usually a very logical person, but in this case, I really am struggling to see that Occam’s razor provides a purely logical answer.

Truly strange and I must say, extremely bizarre and I’m afraid there isn’t an answer that I can get for you. But I do admire the connection you two have because it takes two people to be VERY close if there’s some ESP going on. My sister (who is just a year and 10 days younger than I) and I are extremely close and there have been numerous occassions where we do the thing where we say one thing at the same time or we are thinking of the same song or something strange. Nice article for a bit of thought and I guess there are traces that ESP does exist.

I wish i could help you on this one but dreams are strange things anything can happen in a dream and carrie on when we wake why this happens or how it happens i have not got a clue but what a good story!
I have dreams about warnings at times. I sometimes have heard my daughters voice softly saying my name. Sometimes it’s not a dream. My eyes are awake. I would always find out that a short time later my daughter was in need for my help.I always pray about it and it always works out. It could be a warning of a fire. It could be warning of something else. I would pray for each other and ask God for direction. He will give it to you. Have you ever heard of people who dreamt their loved one was in a car wreck and then they had one. They many times told of how they prayed. This they feel helped prevent or help their loved ones accident not be fatal. Pray for another dream that will help interpet this one. You maybe surprise what you dream of next. I’ve always heard that angels can’t help you if you don’t ask. Just my thoughts. God bless you!
Thats strange but has heard of things like that happening.I have a uncles who had a daughter who hurt herself. Miles away,I felt the pain and called him since we are super close to the other..My uncle said he was fine but his daughter just hurt her arm…the same arm I was feeling the pain in.Some things are hard to explain and this is one of them. But I believe dreams carry over in everday living at times. Still a great article to read and gives food for thought.
Explanation – it’s caused by slight inter dimensional interference that occurs as a result of the quantum universal computer we are all part of.
This is really intriguing. I’m fascinated by dreams and psychic occurrences.
It seems the Triond editors misread your article. It shouldn’t be on Purple Slinky! I’ve had the same problem with several of my articles. It’s really frustrating.
My true thoughts are this:
I have no idea. That is crazy. Maybe somehow when she dreamed it, her mind created a taste in her mouth that was then transferred to you. I have no clue.
It is mysterious.Thanks for sharing.
I’d say write it down with the date and time, and see what happens.
I have had dreams in which I think these are not lies, they are incidents I have to remember and they will come true later.
I think it’s very interesting. A lot of times, I will think of my mom (when I want to tell her something) and if I’m at her house she will come and say, “Did you call me?” Sometimes if I want to tell her something and I’m away she will call me and tell me that she thought she remembered me telling her to call…
Yes, things like this happen.
Back when I lived in N.Y. I woke violently early one morning and yelled “WHAT?!” -It is as if someone called my name. I was prickly all over… like panic. It was so real and yet my cat was soundly sleeping on my bed. Usually if anyone came to the door or the phone rang she’d race to the other room. She just stared at me, unconcerned.
I got up, looked out at the pre-dawn. I opened the front door and looked in my front yard in case there had been a vehicle accident and maybe there was someone needing help. Nothing.
I wandered around the apartment, unable to sleep. I remember drinking a large bottle of Pepsi (yes folks, at 4:30-AM in the morning) and finally, returned to bed and slept.
At 7-AM that morning my mom called me from the hospital; my dad had been complaining of ‘chest pains’ that morning (around 3-AM) and had gotten up, took Bromo-Seltler (thinking it was gas or heartburn) and after maybe 45-mins., returned to bed but collapsed at the foot of the bed. Severe chest pains.
Mom called the ambulance and they came, dad still insisting that it ‘was just gas’ that would be relived if he could just burp… but they got him into the ambulance and mom into her car to follow to the hospital, but they just sat there in mom’s driveway… for like a half hour with the lights on!
Dad had the heart attack IN the ambulance while attached to their monitoring devices! The actually recorded the event on their machines! Because he was ‘in the care’ of EMTs at the exact moment of his heart attack (and it was on the side of the heart that does the least damage and one recovers the quickest from) he was fine. Within a few short months he was back to his usual self.
But it remains a curious fact that I ‘heard’ someone yell my name that morning at almost exactly the time that his heart attack occurred, and I lived some 6 miles away at the time…
to be honest, i sometimes belive in this kinda thing, but think just sounds like wishful thinking to me, im a smoker and every morning i smell smoke, because i want a cigarette when i wake up every morning, nobody else in my house smokes and i leave my cigarettes downstairs, i honestly think it could just be wishful thinking. or not, you never know.
Thanks Bethan, but as I said, I don’t smoke and haven’t done in a few years, neither has my wife. In all that time, I have never woken up thinking I want a cigarette (at least not since the first few weeks of giving up). No, this was not just wishful thinking….
I do believe in ESP,even scientist claim that there are parts of the brain that are unknown. So yeah, it is possible.
