The word Bikini is not named without some history. Bikini is named after one of the island known as Bikini Island among the group of 20 islands in the Pacific.

In 1946, while England was busy wrapping up its rule over different countries, United States conducted its atomic bomb test at Bikini islands. To understand and research the effects of atom bomb, ships and animals were kept on the island and to nearby locations. After conducting two nuclear tests during their months, effects of radiations and bombs were studied.

During the same time in 1946, a fashion designer from France had designed new bath suits for women and knowing about these bomb explosions and bikini islands he found it interesting to name the bath suits as bikini. The same name continued for other bath suits and what came into existence is bikini.
