Leather Exterior

In my college class we were asked to compare ourselves to a shoe. This is what I came up with.

A quality, leather, knee-high boot with a two inch stiletto heel has been in style for ages. For years the black boot has been an elusive mystery to men and women alike. What makes this object so desirable and yet so threatening at the same time? Perhaps the potentially dangerous heel keeps most at bay. Any way you look at it the knee-high boot is mysterious, confident, and tough.

A mystery in looks and design this boot turns heads and mind. Made of dark yet shiny leather which embraces the legs for a slimming look. Though the material can look coarse it is actually quite soft. The pair can also come in a variety of designs with a diversity of accessories attached. No look is ever quite the same and no style is ever too far off from the classic look.

Not only is this boot a mystery but it is also weeps of class and bleeds confidence. Designed to compliment nearly any look ranging from casual to elegant. It is timeless and can stand alone in the world of fashion. As said before nothing is like it, it is unique.

Lastly, amongst other bold things the boot is tough. Not only built to withstand the changing fashions its leather exterior is waterproof and hard to tear. When properly cared for scuffing does not happen easily or often. The outside stands firm to protect the delicate inside.

My whole life I have stood out from the crowd. Perhaps being different not always for the best reason but it is the way I enjoy living my life. I have eluded the expectations of others to become a failure in life and never accomplish my goals. The person I am today may be a mystery to some but I am also a very confident and tough young woman.

In my life experiences I have learned that you should never hide who you truly are on the inside. On that same note there are many things that I can never reveal to the rest of the world. People often wonder about my image and why I make it the way I do. My wardrobe consists of mainly rock band t-shirts, jeans and then oddly enough business wear. Truth is my image reflects and opposes who I really am. My t-shirts show my passion for the music I live to and one day wish to perform. However, my more business casual attire shows my drive to become successful although I have not yet reached that stage in my life. My two diverse images prove to create a mystery of my true identity.

Often my looks and actions are confused with self-pity and even self-loathing. For the past few years of my life I have suffered from severe depression and anxiety. As a way of coping I have resorted to self mutilation in the form of cutting. When someone who does not know me sees the words and marks I have made in my skin they assume I am suicidal or even insane. Though it may be hard to believe I am actually a very confident person. I take pride in my daily accomplishments especially when it comes to battling my depression.

Needless to say my life has not been the easiest. It has taken a lot for me to survive the challenges of growing up in an abusive home. I have been thrown around and tossed out of my home many times in my life. These experiences have given me the strength to survive. Many times I have slept outside in the rain or snow and found ways to keep warm. As I got older I was able to use my car as a shelter for however many days or weeks I was forced to live on the streets. What I have learned through this is no matter what nothing can hurt me unless I let it. I am a tough individual with a leather exterior.

In many ways I share traits with the two inch heeled, leather boot. Both the boot and myself are a mystery to those who judge our appearance. When we stand alone it is subtly obvious that there is confidence embedded within the stitches. Also, if put against difficult times and elements we both prove able to stand firm. Comparing a boot to myself can only show that we are both mysterious, confident and tough.
