Mummification: Looks That Last
Egyptologists resurrect a 4000 year old tradition.
In 1994 a man died in Baltimore. The cause of death? Heart attack. He was in his late 70’s at the time of his demise. But that’s not the end of his story.
Ronn Wade, director of The Maryland State Anatomy Board and director of the Anatomical Service Division of The University Of Maryland, along with Bob Brier, a professor of philosophy and Egyptology at the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University in New York, decided to re- create ancient Egyptian techniques of mummification of the human body. After waiting months for the perfect subject, They came across the afore mentioned gentleman who had been reasonably healthy and intact during his life. Wade and Breir, using only replicas of the original ancient tools and following 2,000 year old descriptions of mummifying technique’s have transformed the late gentleman into an Egyptian style mummy. 14 years later, the mummy retains the same physiological condition it had immediately after mummification. Using only ancient techniques these 2 men have stopped time for the cadaver and expect the mummy to last for thousands of years.

Very interesting article. I really enjoyed reading it.
A great article. I visited the catacombes in Sicily a few years ago and there is a little girl there who died at eighteen months and was preserved during WW11, so her father could see her when he came back from the war. She still looked perfect.

I am interested on that articles. I am sorry but i think Christine’s informations about Rosalia’s (the little girl in Palermo’s catacombs) father are inaccurate. Pity because as i read Christine is a retired teacher. You can visit also my page about these catacombs.

And of course too many others on the internet.
Really interesting articule Jamie. Although looking at some of the Hollywood has-beens, I’d say they’d been mummified before death, only it’s called plastic-surgery.
Quiet well researched work and interesting too!!
