Mustache Mugs

Ever heard of them? I haven’t, until today. They’re exactly as described — mugs for guys with mustaches.

Recently, I wrote an article about funny mustaches.  One of the people who commented on the article, Patrick Bernauw, pointed out one of the google ads at the side of the article.  It was titled mustache mugs and lead to an ebay listing of a few pages of mugs.

The mugs have a ceramic piece across the top to hold the mustache in place while you’re drinking!  They are hysterical and ingenius all at the same time!

This picture comes from one of the ads by my mustache article.  I must say that I normally totally ignore these ads and would have missed it entirely if not for the observant reader mentioned earlier.

These particular ones are from a company called Shanware Pottery in New Hampshire.  They are absolutely hysterical and you can order them left or right handed, if you’re wondering.

Apparently these mugs were hugely popular in the Victorian era when men often had long flowing mustaches (i.e. handlebar, etc.).  These ceramic pieces helped keep their mustaches groomed and prevented the mustache wax from melting when they were drinking hot beverages.

There are tons of antique ones of these available — although apparently, the left handed antique mustache mugs are quite rare (go figure!).  There does seem to be plenty of places reproducing them though.

They seem to come in all sorts of styles.  Very elaborate and fussy tea cups to metal beer steins.

They are so funny/great!  I think I’ll have to buy a couple of these as Christmas gifts this year.  Oh, and maybe I’ll start taking a little peek at the google ads on the sides of things again too.  Who knows what you might be missing!

Paula I saw that comment on your previous article how come I knew it was only a matter of time before you did this on…lol.. It is very good and I am an avid collector of coffe cups and mugs I don’t have any of these in my collection. I may now have to go look at the ebay ad and reconsider… thanks again for all your great work.

I went ahead and ordered 2 of these for Christmas. They’re the ones from the first picture. I’ll let you know what they’re like when they arrive! I love shopping online.

I received two of these mugs today from Shanware pottery. The picture doesn’t do them justice at all — they’re absolutely beautiful! I’d totally recommend them if you’re thinking of getting one at all.

I just ordered two of these mugs for fellows that I know for Christmas. They seem to have everything but neither one has this item.

I wear a large mustache and at one time I had a mustache cup, but evidently someone thought they needed it more than I, as I kept in the coffee room. I appreciate the info on where to obtain another one. If you wear a mustache, their handy than a shirt pocket!
