Once a Marine-Always a Marine

Our freedom and our rights came with a heavy price, many soldiers in the Marine, Army, Navy and Air Force sacificed their lives so that I could say and write what I want, when I want. Without our faith in God, we are just lost soldiers, walking on an endless path to no place, so thank God daily, and our servicemen when you see them, it is because of them that I can say “God Bless America” AMEN.

If it were not for those who lost their lives, we would not have the freedom to even write about things we like, or feel strongly about; but because of many Marines, we are free. I once heard a story, perhaps a joke but it has stuck in my mind all these years, especially since we have so many groups protecting the own ideals. They claim they are protecting unborn children, then the groups who give woman the right to abortions, who should believe in God, the list is endless; they should really mind their own business but the don’t. They forget it is because of our armed forces that they have the right to be so stupid to force their ideas down our thoughts.

So here it goes, A young man decided to attend college after his military tour in Iraq and Afghanistan, he wanted to be an educator, a teacher of history to be more precise, when he came across an atheist professor. Now I believe as this Marine did, that religious belief and politics don’t belong in a classroom; whether its junior high, high school or college, teachers and professors should keep their beliefs to themselves.

Well this professor went on about how we had no business in being in Iraq, and that if there was a God, he would not have allowed people to die. If there was a God, there should not have been a World War I or II, or the Korean War and the Vietnam War, just to name a few.

He was trying to convince us that if there was ever a God, during the Old Testament, that he has long abandon us. The Marine was getting very upset with this professor, since it was his faith in God that got him through the last six years of his life. So when the professor walked into the room one day and said “If there should be a God, may he knock me down where I stand”! The Marine just sat there looking on, he wondered if this professor was for real; but when the professor again provoked God by saying “See there is no God, because if there was, I would be lying on the floor.

This was the last straw, the Marine very calmly got up and walked over to the professor punching him in the head, knocking him out. He returned to his seat and waited, as everyone looked at him in pure shock; when the professor came to, he asked the Marine; “What the hell was that for”?

The Marine stood up, and told the class, I am a Marine, once a Marine always a Marine; and while on tour in Iraq and Afghanistan, there were many times he came to rely on the saving grace of God and that he would not be here today if it had not been for his faith in God. There were many nights he slept in foxholes, or took turns with his buddy staying awake in very scary situations; protecting life, for each other, and for you and for me.

So he turned to the professor to answer the question: Why did you knock me out? He replied that God was too busy protecting the soldiers who were fighting to give us, including you the rights to be free, so he sent me to knock you out.

The class applauded and the professor was very careful what to say to that class. The Marine went on with his life; he is and forever will be a proud American Marine, for it was he who fought for our rights, thanking God each day that he made it home alive.

I absolutely loved this article. It is the truth that god and the soldiers bear the burden upon their backs for the rights we at home share. The photos add to the passion and drama within the article’s words. Thanks!
