Revolutionary Planter

A non-fiction account of the first “Revolutionary Planter” to go out in a quest of adventure and free spirit.

Armed with a trowel and a bag of seeds he sets out to the path through the woods by the river. He walks down the path, notices the stream and the sound of the rushing water. Looks around at the bare trees and bushes and ponders that soon it will be difficult to get through many of these areas that are now barren of undergrowth.

His mission is to have fun, a new hobby is becoming apparent as he journeys. God’s seeds will be sown if he has anything to do with it. He wanders to the train tracks after stopping briefly to admire the stream. There really is no hidden area here so he heads back the opposite direction. He had briefly gone off path and troweled an area near a tree to loosen up the soil, dropped some seeds into the soil from the bag, and then covered the seeds lightly with dirt. One small area is a nice start. Nice day for a walk so he walks back toward the parkway. As he leaves the forest trail onto the paved path he passes a man with his son who is also out for a walk. The son is driving a little, plastic, electric 4 by 4 and seems oblivious to the planter walking up behind him. The planter looks at the man who says, “how’s it going?”

“Hi,” the planter responds.

A half hour walk takes him to another wooded area. This one is likewise barren and along the banks of the same stream. There are houses up on top of the bluff, some with large windows. Better to be out of the view of those as much as possible or at least not to dawdle suspiciously. The planter walks along the trail and notices it is not as lightly traveled as he remembers it. There is evidence of dirt bike traffic of the kids and the trail is relatively well worn. The planter goes off the path a few feet and behind a tree kneels. He takes out the trowel and digs the ground loose a bit. He takes the bag of seeds out of his pocket and drops some into the loose dirt and then covers them over lightly. He puts the trowel back in his pocket and the bag of seeds as well and walks back onto the trail.

Not the best spot in the world he thinks to himself as he walks back down the trail to get back to the road. He stops at one spot off the path and on the side of the hill and performs his quick planting ritual one more time before continuing on his way and exiting the wooded path toward the road. A couple more successful plantings although it will take a lot of luck for the seeds to germinate and grow. One of the areas especially was right by a tree where people may come and sit down periodically, in which case the seeds will be trampled and unlikely to grow. Not the best spot indeed but a fun walk nonetheless.

Revolutionary planting could really take off with the right spots. Whether those are hidden in plain sight types of locations or more out of the way places remains to be seen. That will be up to future revolutionary planters. Spreading the seeds of life against the forces of man which are set against them will be exciting and invigorating for the new revolutionaries. It is one act of defiance which truly causes nobody any harm and is in fact healthy behavior. The thrill of not getting caught and doing something truly fun and amazing is one especially fun aspect of revolutionary planting while another is the relative lack of actual danger.

Get out and enjoy nature this year. Become a revolutionary planter. Spring is here. Now is a great time to start. One small act for man or woman, one giant treat for man or woman-kind.

Interesting! Reminds me of Johnny Appleseed. Maybe I’ll have to buy some seeds and give it a go. (Maybe I could be Denise Pumpkinseed?)

99 times out of a 100 – nothing will grow. But it’s still worth a try!

Have pumpkins growing everywhere? That would be pretty awesome! I vote yes.
