Some interesting facts about the world.

NORWAY’S MIDNIGHT SUN

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to experience sunlight when it should to be night-time?  Well, in Norway this amazing phenomenon occurs.  At North Cape the sun does not set for about two and half months in mid-summer while there is no night as far south as Trondheim during the month of June.  However come mid-winter there is scarcely 6 hours of daylight in the southern part and night is almost continuous in the far north.

ANGEL FALLS

Water cascading in a waterfall is a beautiful sight and Venezuela holds the distinction of having the highest uninterrupted waterfall in the world.  Known as Angel Falls it is situated in southeastern Venezuela on a tributary of the Caroni River and drops over 3,212 feet ( 979m ) from a plateau in the Guiana Highlands.  It was named Angel Falls after the American aviator, Jimmy Angel, who was believed to have discovered it in 1933.  However it is said that it was in fact discovered in 1912 by Venezuelan explorer Ernesto Sanchez La Cruz.

TAILORBIRDS

In India and southern China can be found Tailorbirds which show unusual skill in building their nests to protect their eggs. In true tailorlike fashion they use their bills to bore holes in the margins of two adjacent leaves through which they draw a thread, knotting it on the outside to keep it from slipping.  The materials which serve as thread for this masterful job include cocoon silk, spider webs or plant fibers.

Tailor birds are about 6 in long and have long tails, yellowish-green backs and  white breasts.
