The Free State of Hemp is Upon Us!

It is September 2009, and studies have recently been done that show that every one in three homes in American have at least one cannabis user in them!

That is amazing. So for every three houses you can count in your community of thousands of people, you have just located another happy hemp & Cannabis user..

It wasn’t but 10 years ago, when I used to try and look up Marijuana as a teenager.

It is truly sad to think how little information was available out there for those youths who were being introduced to drugs just that short time ago. Thankfully though, this last generation has been the information and technology gen.

Which took us from the stone ages of the internet, into one of the most high informative and brain teasing societies on earth.

When I go to the search engines now in 2009, I can easily look up thousands of web pages, blogs, articles, books, comics, dvds, movies or even historical sites that hold abundant information to feed my curiousty for days.

It has really been in the last few years, as Obama ran for and gained the position of our great President, that all the whispers started to turn into loud voices around the country.

When I drive down the streets and roads in seattle, it is regular that you can smell the air and often get a wiff of someones cannabis consumpution near by. As I go to work at venues when I do my events, I see hundreds of people sporting “Stop Arresting Medical Marijuana Patients” t-shirts, or wearing clothings with leafs or creative canna-characters on them.

Since starting my work with the great volunteers of Hempfest, I have met tons of Hemp & Cannabis pioneers, who have started creating hemp products, hemp services or other great introductions into Hemp Economy. Hunderds of people who are acting now, as if The Free State of Hemp is upon is.

In my google news alerts, I recieved regular articles like this one http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/09/25/BAQD19SSQT.DTL  Which only make it so much more true.

From the West to the East, North to the South, Marijuana is a word coming out of everyone’s mouth. As so kindly put in the above article, “California is leading the way”, but that doesn’t mean others aren’t already doing their parts to contribute to the cause.

Here in the great Evergreen State of Washington, we too have a general consensus that the war has already been lost, and that the Free State of Hemp is already here. Now, that doesn’t mean you can walk down the streets and see your average stoner hanging out with their friends.

But it does mean that you can certainly see the frenzy that it has gotten the underground Hemp world into.

People just aren’t as afraid of the legal retaliations anymore, as we get closer to 2010. They are coming out of the closets and dark hiding places and at least enjoying themselves in their living rooms or backyards without fearing so much that they will get in trouble.

Laws have been relaxed, and even if a person were to get in some trouble, it wouldn’t be much. Resources are much more available today as well, which tends to lend to less fear and paranoia among everyone. Articles and publications are everywhere, and even I have a hemp blog www.blogtalkradio.com/nbp

Social media has already allowed the take over of Hemp, cannabis and marijuana, and everyday on my facebook page I get to enjoy the status alerts and interesting interactions with more than 100 different pro hemp, cannabis and medical marijuana friends.

There are polls, quizzes, news alerts, updates, music, bands, products and everything imaginable being passed between people on a regular basis. Even skype has a special little “smoking” emoticon that you can use.

It is obvious that the Hemp Movements have made their mark and we have proven that Hemp and Cannabis will be legal soon enough. In fact, there are many who are already saying that it’s not about “if” we will legalize it, it’s “when” and “how” we will legalize it.

Most of the heads of the Hemp Movements have already forgotten their heated battle to legalize, and are quarrelling over how Hemp, Cannabis and Medical Marijuana should be taxed and regulated.

Many want it to be free and legal to possess, grow or share. Others feel that we have to tax the selling of the plants, seeds or herbs. A general consensus of most Pro-Hempers is that it should be taxed and regulated, although they want to be allowed to have some for personal use that is not taxed. Which isn’t to bad if you ask me. Then it just becomes a choice of how much to tax, and how much is allowed for personal use before it becomes considered as a business.

The Free State of Hemp is here, and everywhere whispers are turning into cheers. The “smell” or freedom is in the air, and I think I look forward to New Years the most…
