The Ultimate Multi-Tasker

Get more things done, get organized!

“And what do you want to be when you grow up little Susie?”

“I want to be a ballerina, a model, a doctor, and a lawyer! Oh, and I’ll be a writer in my spare time.”

We did some serious multitasking when we were kids. We wanted to be many glamorous things and dared anyone to tell us we couldn’t. Of course we grew up and those childish days are behind us. To this day, kids are still the ultimate multi-taskers. But is the idea of multi-tasking really just a childhood fantasy? No! Today we update blogs, social media pages, emails, and sometimes all at once. Or while we’re on a conference call with an overseas client, while in rush hour traffic, on the train, dropping the kids off at daycare or simply cooking breakfast. We find ways to get everything done, that needs to be done that is. But what about the things we want to be done? Somehow we lose sight of those things along our rite of passage into adulthood. And so then we create in ourselves a void; a void that can only be filled when we accomplish, or conquer, our innermost…interests. That one thing (or two) that makes us happy and keeps a smile on our face is needed to fill that void.

Take a moment to remember what that thing is; what kept u happy, and moving through the day? For me it’s writing, or reading a good book. Going to museums, drawing, painting, and just lounging listening to really great music are my favorites. But, over time, I’ve forgotten how to do those things. I forgot that if I stop doing any of the things i loved or found joy in, I would inevitably stop being that happy smiling person I was at age ten, fifteen, or twenty-one.

I’m going to get a head start on my 2010 new year’s resolutions. Starting now, I plan to scratch that, I’m going to get back in touch with me. The real me. The artistic me. The curious me. The me that still wants to be the ultimate multi-tasker.
