There are precious stones extracted from earth such as sapphire, emerald, diamond and ruby.

Among different types of minerals Ruby is a gemstone found in red of blood-red color due to presence of components such as chromium. According to Latin, red color is referred as “rubber” and this is how Ruby was named after red color.

The price of ruby depends on its color and its brightness.

The costliest ruby is known as pigeon blood red that is brightest and red compared to other rubies.

Like diamond clarity is also important in rubies like diamond as well as the cuts and carat.

Rubies are extracted from earth in countries like Afghanistan, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Cambodia.

Rubies have hardness of 9 compared to 10 of diamonds and most of the natural rubies found from earth are impure and imperfect.

RUBY RECORDS

The largest Ruby of the world is believed to be in “The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History” in Washington.

The ruby was found in Burma of 23.1 carats and is embedded in a platinum ring along with diamonds. Peter Buck presented ruby to the museum in memory of his wife.
