Unique Art

The Food Network has inspired me with unique can art.

Watching the Food Network on late night TV does not usually lead to such an inspiration as this one.  The show Unwrapped typically takes viewers across the country to restaurants and factories to reveal how our favorite and most popular food items are created, produced, packaged, and distributed. Tonight’s episode however took us to a contest for a good cause: Canned food art that will be donated to local food banks.  Not only a great way to help the community, the artistic idea has inspired me to think outside the box when being creative.

Huge scenes with walls of cans, arranged perfectly so that the colors compliment eachother and form large pictures or patterns had a breathtaking appearance.  Statues of cans built to replicate things such as rainbows or hot air balloons seemed unreal.  Who would’ve guessed that such beautiful, well planned pieces could come from boring cans of food?

Sparked with interest, I took the time after watching the segment on TV to research this innovative hobby on the internet only to discover that Canstruction is not as unpopular as I would’ve thought.  I found an entire established website dedicated the artform, with beautiful images of the most intricate and captivating creations. The Society for Design Administration is truly offering a wonderful contribution to the world art. Weeks of hard work, thousands of cans, and dedication are all it takes to make an impressive structure for a variety of competitions, contests, and fundraisers and I know that Canstruction has serious potential to take on the Art world and become a popular form of creative expression, and perhaps more importantly, a foundation for donations to help feed the hungry nationwide.
