Slaves are trained for battles when they are chosen to be gladiators. They are many different types of gladiators; some of them are murmillo, thraex, retiarius, secutor, hoplomachus etc. Romans watch these battles for entertainment. It is usually free to watch the battle except for the people who choose the gladiators.

Slaves had to be strong and healthy for battles so they aren’t treated badly, instead they are fed well and are trained a lot.

If a gladiator is a place where he could die the other gladiator looks at the person who paid and if the person puts there thumb down, the gladiator has to kill the other gladiator, but if they put there thumb up, the gladiators doesn’t kill the other gladiator. If the person who pays puts there thumb down but the gladiator doesn’t kill the other gladiator, the guards kill the gladiator who didn’t listen.
